From the workshop
We built the pit shallow and wide so a kid can sit on the rim and still reach the middle. A crane-style digger mounts in one corner and swings its scoop through the sand from a seat. The lid snaps over the top when play stops, and the umbrella posts into the side wall for shade. It takes water instead of sand if the afternoon turns that way.
Seated digger arm
The excavator sits on the corner and turns on its base while the levers raise and drop the scoop. The seat puts a kid at the right height to work the pile.
Lid over the top
A fitted cover clips on to keep leaves and rain out between afternoons. It lifts off in one piece without tools.
Umbrella post
The umbrella slots into the side wall and tilts over the pit. It pulls out for storage or when the sun drops behind the house.
Construction toys included
Moulds, a rake and small trucks ride in the pit under the lid. They stay with the sandbox instead of scattering across the lawn.
